The small picturesque town of Villiers lies on the banks of the Vaal River. Vrede ("Peace") is yet another quaint town and the Vrede Dam offers angling, water-skiing and boating opportunities. The farm Arcadia in the Vrede district has the distinction of almost always achieving the highest and the highest average prices per sale of Bonsmara cattle on the National Sale since 1989.
Cornelia was founded by J.D. Odendaal, who is believed to be the first Afrikaner to undergo adult baptism. It is also well-known for one of the country's most significant fossils sites, the Uitzoekt farm.
Memel is home to the Seekoeivlei Nature Reserve (an internationally recognized RAMSAR wetlands area). A monument commemorating the 1914-Rebellion against the decision of the South African to support Brittain in the First World War, is located in front of the Dutch Reformed Church. General de Wet's son is also buried on the memorial spot. He died during the uprising.
